Every child needs and deserves the financial and emotional support of both parents. When a child’s parents are no longer together, financial support is obtained through a Florida child support order obtained from a judge at the end of a divorce proceeding or a paternity suit. If you are a custodial parent seeking child support or the enforcement of a support order, contact me for help. I have worked with families in a variety of child support situations, including helping parents who are having difficulty making their child support payments—and parents who face particular challenges in bringing cases to court and enforcing child support orders.
Visitation problems are not an excuse to stop paying child support. If you are being denied visitation, contact me for help with legal enforcement of your visitation rights. Don't make your problems worse by breaking the law, losing your driver's license, or ending up in jail.
The amount of child support a parent will pay is determined by Florida's child support guidelines. Your Florida child support order is enforceable anywhere in the country (and outside the country, if a parent is in the military stationed overseas). Your original child support order may, at the discretion of the judge, be adjusted upward or downward if there are significant changes in circumstances.
It is common for a parent to need to go back to court at a later date and seek a change to a child support order. Circumstances change; a parent may lose a job or get a raise, a child may have special needs, or one parent may need to move away. All of these are good reasons to contact me and consider taking your case back to court for a modification of your order.
If you are not receiving the child support you are owed, do not hesitate to seek legal help getting your child support order enforced.
If at all possible, do not stop paying your child support. The consequences of nonpayment can be severe. Contact me for help. I can take your case back to court to explain your financial difficulties and attempt to get a reduction in your support or negotiate a repayment plan so you can stay in compliance with the law.
